I brought my mom here for a medical emergency, but we didn’t even make it past security. The ER was packed, but what ultimately made us leave was the behavior of the security guard, Susan. She was rude, dismissive, and acted like we were an interruption to her day. My mom simply asked if it had been busy all day and how long the wait might be, normal questions anyone would ask in an emergency, but Susan seemed irritated and gave short, unpleasant responses. Meanwhile, a man walked right through the metal detector around us, and she immediately switched to being friendly and pleasant with him. The difference in how she interacted with us versus him was impossible to ignore and left us feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. I understand both ER locations have been jam-packed lately, likely due to the economy and people losing access to benefits. I genuinely empathize with every worker because it is overwhelming work, and I respect that. But being nasty or condescending toward patients and their families is not the answer either. With my mom already feeling unwell and me frustrated by how we were treated, I decided not to have her seen at this facility. After reading other reviews, I realized we probably made the right decision. If the first point of contact treats people that poorly, it speaks volumes about what happens beyond the front door. If you have other options, go elsewhere. Make this ER your last resort.

They are not equipped to care for the elderly. Do not send your elderly mother here. The ER physicians and hospitalists are arrogant, rushed, and show little empathy. Their bedside manner is condescending, with virtually none of the compassion you would expect. Baptist South and East are overcrowded and not what a Christian hospital or facility should be. After this experience, I believe the Alabama Medical Board should visit hospitals in South Carolina — they are grade-A institutions compared to the failing grade I give these two hospitals. My mother will leave this hospital in worse condition than when she arrived.

I came into the ER with my spouse for a second time as instructed for her issues when she was last discharged and spent 5 hours in the waiting room, not allowed to be with her while others were allowed to have friends and visitors. She was placed in a hallway and disclosed her PRIOR use of edibles, she hasnt had one in weeks due to her current condition, to the doctor who then treated her as if she was an addict. She was left in the hallway and asked multiple times to have me back there with her which was ignored. It took her getting her doctor's attention to get the nurses to REMEMBER TO TREAT HER while she was laying there in pain with NO HELP. She was forgotten MULTIPLE times and was asked three times by her doctor if she was seen yet. Once she was discharged she let the nurse know she hadn't had a test that was on her papers done and she said that she "had to mark it as done to complete the discharge" which I will be disputing with my insurance ASAP. The efforts of the nursing staff were borderline unethical and negligent and I will be following up with my insurance and ensuring nothing else was thrown onto her visit and recommend anyone else do the same

I have had several laparoscopic procedures over the years. The one I had last Friday was the best of them. Two things contributed greatly to this 1. the Nurse Anesthetist woke me up gently. In some past procedures the wake up was jarring and horrible. 2. They did a really good job deflating my abdomen before sealing me closed. In the past I have spend days in agony as the gas in my abdominal cavity slowly dissipated. I had almost none of that discomfort this time. I wish I had a list of the names so I could thank each person on Dr. Cooper's surgical team for the great work they did for me.

Sat up there for 12 hours no pain meds nothing but test on top of test being ran . I came for a blood clot was told to come in by primary doctor . Sat in the front for 7 hours then when I got to the back I was sitting again for 4 hour before leaving without any help . Those 12 hrs I sat I could have been dead . These nurses need to stop talking and socializing and do their job .

I can’t say enough about this hospital. From the security, the admin staff, the lab assistants, the nurses, and doctors they are AMAZING. They moved swiftly and were extremely thorough. They didn’t leave a stone unturned. Great job! Please keep up the good work.

Unfriendly staff. Came in after a car wreck and instead of asking what hurts, I was interrogated like I was talking to an attorney in suit against me. Waited hours. When I told them what was wrong, they ignored it and said they couldn’t treat it. I had waited so long, I had to leave without results and never got a call telling me results or care instructions like they apparently agreed to do. And it wasn’t the easiest getting records. Afterward, be prepared to be harassed about any bills.
