Kennecott Mines National Historic Landmark

Pendiente de reformar pero muy instructivo

Super well done historic exhibits, all trails are awesome (Bonanza pictured here), beautiful place! Worth noting that you have to take a shuttle up to the mill town, it’s on the other side of a pedestrian footbridge.

Na tohle místo máme velmi různorodé pocity. Vydali jsme se sem na konci září (mimo hlavní sezónu) vidět tzv. Ghost town. Bylo nám řečeno, že auto máme nechat před mostem a dále jít pěšky přibližně 2 hodiny do Kennecottu (během hlavní sezóny možné využít za poplatek okolo 5 dolarů shuttle bus), protože se údajně na místo autem dostat nedá. Po překročení mostu jsme však viděli při zastávce na rozcestí mezi McCarthy a Kennecott mnoho aut, což bylo zprvu matoucí. Kennecott neboli Ghost Town nás také překvapil - nejen že jsme potkali spoustu lidí, kteří celé městečko rekonstruují, ale také spoustu zrekonstruovaných domečků za účelem budoucího Airbnb nebo muzea pro hlavní sezónu. Díky místním jsme ještě zjistili, že vlastně se na místo autem dostat dá. Opodál se nachází další (neoficiální) most - pouze pro místní obyvatele z McCarthy. Na jednu stranu souhlasím a líbí se mi myšlenka celé "Ghost Town" pojmout jako historickou stezku. Na druhou stranu se mi nezdá fér prezentovat místo jako Ghost town a přitom budovat ho jako centrum Airbnb. Místo nás zaujalo právě z důvodu, že se tam dá dostat pouze pěšky a zajímala nás historie. Zjistit pravdu na nás pak působilo spíše jako turistická past a zklamání. Přitom pravda byla více než přijatelná a pochopitelná. Teď, když už víme o mnoho více, se na místo rádi vrátíme znovu v létě ale s mnohem jinými očekáváními než byla ta prvotní!

The National Park Service has done an outstanding job preserving and restoring this historical mining town. There are a handful of buildings you can enter that each offers an abundance of information on the town's history, mining logistics, and eventual revival as a tourist destination There's quite a few original documents and equipment from the 20s/30s which really immerses you in the idea that you're standing in a century-old mining town. Expect to spent about 3-4 hours exploring, more than enough to see and read it all with some space for lunch. There's a couple shuttle services that run from the footbridge in McCarthy to Kennecott (5 miles). Recommend buying a day pass, or multi-day, from the general store for $15/$20

Die Mine ist unfassbar interessant und die damit verbundenen Wanderungen in der Nähe der Mine einfach toll ! Von der Footbridge und zurück ein sehr gute Shuttle Service .

It was very interesting to see this mine 💣 town in the middle of nowhere. The red 🧱 colors on the buildings were really unique. The area is nice but there isn't that much to do. Note: you can't bring your car 🚗 here because of the foot bridge 🌉 In the summer 🌞 months, they have shuttle 🚐 services, but this is not the case in other seasons, so be prepared to walk from the parking lot to the mines (~4.5 miles each way on a flat road)

Absolutely worth a trip! Can be reached either by walking from MC carthy (allow 1.5-2 hrs, slightly uphill) or by shuttle bus. It's a jump back in time. The site is in good shape and being further restored. In a few buildings there are interesting exhibits, displays and movies. Definitely worth the trim. Can be combined with a trip to the glacier, worth a visit as well. A few options for food are available as well in Kennecott.
